David Luiz to Barcelona

Part 1 of David Luiz to Barcelona Deal Complete

David Luiz to BarcelonaMundo Deportivo are today reporting that the first phase of the mission to get David Luiz to Barcelona has been completed.

The Barcelona director of football, Raul Sanllehi, met with Luiz’s agent, Giuliano Bertolucci, in London yesterday and confirmed the player’s desire to move to Catalonia.

They report that Barcelona must now move on to the next phase: negotiating with Chelsea.

46 million euros is the price quoted but despite saying that Chelsea are unwilling to sell they say that Luiz himself will help push the deal through.

The article also states that Barcelona have already ‘secured the option to sign Daniel Agger’ from Liverpool should the Luiz deal not materialise.

Seems Barca are all sorted then. Hmm, if only life was that easy.

New Barcelona defender

Barcelona’s New Defender

New Barcelona defenderBarcelona will be signing a central defender from the Premier League according to today’s Mundo Deportivo.

The top priority for Barcelona is the signing of a new central defender and after PSG’s Thiago Silva signed a new contract this weekend they now have 5 key options:

David Luiz, Daniel Agger, Vincent Kompany, Jan Vertonghen and Laurent Koscielny.

The paper report that Luiz would be top choice but Mourinho has recently stated that under no circumstances would Chelsea sell their Brazilian funny man.

Next in line is Liverpool’s Daniel Agger. A cheaper option that comes with experience and tactical nous, Mundo think this could be the most viable option.

If Barca can pull neither of these two off then it is thought visits to Manchester City, Tottenham and Arsenal will be next in line to try and prize one of their prized assets away.

Ibra PSG Madrid bikini

Ibrahimovic dons Bikini for Madrid

Ibra PSG Madrid bikiniZlatan Ibrahimovic took the term ‘friendly’ a little too far as he stripped down to his bikini after Real Madrid’s 1-0 win over Paris Saint Germain yesterday.

Sources close to ‘Ibra the enigma’ say he was keen to impress hunky CR7, but despite his best efforts he was left to graze the pitch all alone at the end of the game.

The multi-talented author of ‘I Am Zlatan‘ has denied speculation that this was a public attempt to make Gerard Pique jealous. Pique has declined to comment.

Everton Deulofeu Mistake

Everton in Own Player Fail

Everton Deulofeu MistakeEverton have this morning launched their new kit using the 3 new signings to promote it: Antolin Alcaraz, Arouna Kone and Gerard Deulofeu. Or is that Gerard Deufoleu? No, it’s definitely Gerard Deulofeu but the scouse team seem to have got confused and have spelt the Spanish striker from Barcelona’s name wrong. Oops.

Meanwhile Gonzalo Higuain’s proposed move to Napoli is said to be just hours away. That combined with Liverpools latest rebuff of an offer from Arsenal for Luis Suarez seem to rule out his previously anticipated move to the North London Club.

Bale Marca Madrid

Bale Going, Staying, Gone!

Bale Marca MadridDepending which paper you read in Spain this morning Gareth Bale is either staying at Spurs or has already agreed his deal with Real Madrid. If you read them all however, you may be left slightly confused.

While Mundo Deportivo run a story saying Ancelotti doesn’t see it necessary to sign Bale and suggests Madrid need no more players, Marca have it all over their front page that a deal for Bale has been agreed. Not only that but the player has told Tottenham that he wants to leave and is set to sign a 10 million euro per year package with the Spanish Giants.

Marca also say that Ancelotti won’t be finished there and that Luis Suarez will be joining him at Madrid. Wow, what a dive fest that will be if Suarez, Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo all end up playing together. -Marca also report (again) that Ronaldo will end his career at Madrid and will sign a new contract in the coming days for 15 million euros per year!

Marca’s other stories today are that Spurs are set to sign Roberto Soldado and that Valencia will look to sign one of Leandro Damiao, Fred or Manchester United’s Chicharito as a replacement.

Higauin Bale Suarez Reina

Higuain, Bale, Suarez, Reina News

Higauin Bale Suarez ReinaAccording to Marca, Arsenal have raised their bid from 21 to 26 million euros for Gonzalo Higuain. They report that the Argentine striker, currently back in training with Madrid, wants to leave but that Real Madrid won’t accept less than 40 million euros for him.

Thanks to a statement from Liverpool Managing Director, Ian Ayre, Madrid are aware that Arsenal have already had a formal bid rejected for Luis Suarez for 40 million euros and are prepared to hold out until a similar offer comes in.

Meanwhile, Livepool’s Pepe Reina is said to be the target of his former boss and current Napoli manager, Rafa Benitez. It is thought that Napoli have turned their interest to Reina, who is valued at 13 million euros by Liverpool, due to problems coming to an agreement with QPR for Julio Cesar.

And lastly, Mundo Deportivo are reporting this morning that Real Madrid could end up missing out on both Gareth Bale and Luis Suarez as both Tottenham and Liverpool stand firm, insisting that their prized assets are not for sale.

They report that Spurs have offered to double Bale’s current wage packet in order to keep him at White Hart Lane. However, Florentino Perez is desperate to land a ‘Galactico’ for this season and may end up offering Angel Di Maria and/or Gonzalo Higuain to Spurs in part of an offer that will better Manchester United’s supposed upcoming 70 million euro bid.

If Tottenham remain stubborn then it is thought Perez may attempt to use the two Argentinians as part of the bait in the Suarez deal instead.

Daniel Agger to Barcelona?

Barcelona Turn their Attentions to Daniel Agger

Daniel Agger to Barcelona?According to this morning’s Barcelona sport paper, Mundo Deportivo, Daniel Agger is now Barcelona’s top priority.

Having been following him for 2 years now, he has recently been promoted to top of their shopping list after Thiago Silva confirmed he will be staying at Paris St Germain.

The paper quote 15 million euros as the price to tempt Agger away from his 9 year love affair with Liverpool.

The Dane is thought to have been disillusioned in recent years that he was never top priority for Barcelona but it is thought that perhaps now his opportunity has come.

Santi Cazorla leaving Arsenal for Atletico Madrid?

Santi Cazorla is Leaving Arsenal

Santi Cazorla leaving Arsenal for Atletico Madrid?

Santi Cazorla leaving for Atletico Madrid?

More bad news for Arsenal fans having seemingly missed out on Gonzalo Higuain. According to Spanish radio station, Onda Cero, Santi Cazorla is about to sign for Atletico Madrid.

Having already snatched David Villa from in front of both the Gunners’ and Tottenham’s noses, Atletico are now hoping to spend some more of the massive fee they commanded for Radamel Falcao, this time on Arsenal’s prized asset.

Onda Cero have reported that Cazorla is not overly happy with his life in London. They say the fee will be 20 million euros, meaning, if it does indeed go through, that they will still have more than half of the money left from the Falcao transfer despite having signed two of Spain’s best players in Villa and the ex Villarreal and Malaga playmaker Cazorla.

It is believed Atletico have already made the bid and now we just wait to see Arsenal’s response.

Pichichi 100 year anniversary

Pichichi: 100 Years On

Today is the 100th anniversary of the day Pichichi scored his first goal.

Pichichi 100 year anniversaryPichichi‘ whose real name was Rafael Moreno Aranzadi, was the stuff of legend, scoring 200 league goals in 170 appearances over a 10 year career with Athletic Bilbao. His name went on to become one of legend, that which we refer to the player who has scored the most goals in a season in Spain, but not before the man himself had his life cut incredibly short.

Pichichi was labelled a mischievous and unruly troublemaker by his uncle, a local priest, and it was these traits that led to his early death at just 29 years of age. Officially his death was put down to contracting typhus as a result of eating some bad oysters but his family later admitted that he died as a result of his ‘living life on the edge’.

17th March 1913 was the day of Rafael Moreno Aranzadi Pichichi’s debut for his boyhood club Athletic Bilbao: A Copa del Rey semi final. It took him just 2 minutes to register his first Bilbao goal, the first of 77 in 89 Copa del Rey matches.

In 1953 Spanish newspaper Marca decided to set up the award for the season’s top scorer, and named it after the prolific forward from Bilbao.

100 years on and it is Lionel Messi who is odds on to take the Pichichi trophy for 2012-2013 for the third time in four seasons (the other one going to Cristiano Ronaldo).

Read more about the history of Pichichi here.
