Valencia’s Aly Cissokho and Roberto Soldado

For his Espangol induction, Pablo Bakero reports on the plights of Valencia duo Aly Cissokho and Roberto Soldado…

Valencia's Aly Cissokho and Roberto SoldadoLiverpool FC are thought to be close to finalizing a deal to sign Valencia full back Aly Cissokho. The Frenchman seems to be sitting on the fence with a couple of quotes released in the last couple of weeks. Firstly he claimed that if the offer to join Liverpool arose, he would take it, stating that ‘Liverpool are a legendary club’. Little over a week later he is quoted as saying he is happy in Valencia. Whether he stays at the Mestalla or not may not be his decision though. With Valencia missing out on Champions League football for the 2013-14 season they are having to sell some of the star players to deal with the loss of income. Liverpool’s offer is thought to be for a one year loan with the option to make the move permanent, netting Valencia between 4-5m euros. If completed the transfer would see Cissokho become the fourth player to move from Los Che to Anfield following in the footsteps of Mauricio Pellegrino, Momo Sissoko and Fabio Aurelio.

Questions also surround the future of Roberto Soldado who could be set to make the same move. Tottenham Hotspur remain favourites to land the man who has become arguably Spain’s most potent goal threat, but seem reluctant to meet his 30m euro buy-out clause. With Liverpool potentially about to cash in on star striker Luis Suarez, it is thought they are ready to re-invest a large chunk of that transfer fee in Soldado. We should see in the next week or so whether the pair complete their respective switches to the English Premier League. Soldado’s move will grab more headlines, but I think Cissokho’s move could be good business for Liverpool, providing strong competition to Enrique as they, like Valencia target a return to Champions League football.
